The Waynesboro Road & River Relay as part of Riverfest is a run, paddle and bike triathlon over an approximate 16.5 mile course in and around Waynesboro, Virginia. The race features well-marked, relatively flat running and bike courses, Masters Solo categories and excellent prizes. Plus, as an incentive to create new teams, you can deduct $5.00 from your application fee for every fully paid new participant's application included with your application and check by April 18th.
Teams may consist of one (solo) to four people. The first leg is a 3.1-mile run over a relatively flat, cross-country course. The second leg is a 2-mile canoe or kayak segment on the South River. The third and final leg is an 11.5-mile bicycle segment on a slightly hilly course. The relay will occur rain or shine. Registration Fees & Payment Information
$20.00 per team member/$25.00 solo for registration received prior to April 18th.
$25.00 per team member/$30.00 solo after April 20th and on race day.
You may deduct $5.00 from your application fee for every fully paid new
participant's application submitted with your application and check by April 18th.
Make checks payable to Riverfest, and be sure to complete and have all participants sign registration forms.

Packet
Pick-up & Race day Registration
Race packets will be available at The Salvation Army, 246 Arch Ave. in
Waynesboro from 8:00 until 9:30 a.m. on race day. No race day entries will be
allowed after 9:30
Directions to Packet Pick-up
Take the Waynesboro Lyndhurst exit off of I-64, head into Waynesboro and turn
left on Main Street. Cross the river and take the second left, which is Arch
Ave.. Drive one block to the Salvation Army offices on the left. You may
park in the City parking lot across the street. Packets will include numbers,
exchange wristband & tee shirts. Application release must be signed by each
team member before their team packet can be picked up (NO EXCEPTIONS).
We recommend you arrive at least an hour before the start to stage your boat
and bike.
Parking
Race participants should utilize the city parking lot across from the
Salvation Army. Parking is available at the pavilion parking lot (near the
run finish) for the awards ceremony. Limited parking is also available near
the river to bike transition. Please do not park in the transition areas or
on Hopeman Parkway (near the boat to bike transition).
Post
Relay Events
The award ceremonies will be held no later than 1:00 PM after the relay finish
at The Pavilion at Constitution Park between Main St. & Broad St. (near the
run finish line). We recommend that you plan to have lunch and/or enjoy the
festivities while waiting for the awards ceremony. A bound copy of the
results, complete with team photos will be available after the ceremony.
There are many activities and events occurring throughout the day.
Start &
Running Leg
The relay will begin promptly at 10:00 in front of the Salvation Army, not far
from Constitution Park. The runners will head South on Arch Ave. to Wayne
Ave., left on Jefferson and go left to Washington Ave.
The course will take them left on Windsor, then left on Delphine Avenue.
(Runners are expected to run in the flat grass behind the guardrails on
Delphine). Runners will turn left and follow a route behind NAPA before
proceeding to the finish on Main Street. The running leg will end at
Constitution Park, just after crossing the Main Street Bridge. Runners must
have numbers displayed on the front of their shirt or shorts and/or
visibly drawn on their arm.
River
Leg
The paddlers will leave Constitution Park at the Main St. Bridge and will take
out on the right side of the river just North of the Hopeman Pkwy Bridge.
Solo participants must paddle solo. At the transition one paddler will need to get out of the boat
and run approx. 100 yards to make the hand-off to the bicyclist. The river to
bike exchange must take place on Hopeman Pkwy. Lead paddler (or solo paddler)
must pin their number on the front of their life vest.
Bike
Leg & Finish
The bicyclist will begin an out-and-back course on Hopeman Pkwy, cross
the river and turn right onto Rockfish Rd. (865), a somewhat hilly and
winding road. There is a turn around just short of Rt. 612 about
5-1/2 miles out. They will return toward town on Rockfish Rd. and turn
left on to Hopeman Pkwy, the way they came and pass the transition
point. The finish line is near the entrance to Basic Park, which
is the next right at the stop light on Hopeman Pkwy. Bicyclists must
have number on back of shirt/shorts, or visible on arm and/or
front of helmet. Be aware that your number will be needed at the finish
to accurately record your time.
